Toy Rotation

Toy Rotation

Do you rotate toys in your play space at home?

If you’ve never heard of toy rotation before – I am pretty sure you’re going to like it.

It really is a simple but very effective way of keeping your child interested and engaged in their toy selection.

It is very common for littles to end up with lots of toys and even more common for many of them to go ignored because there are just too many that it becomes overwhelming.

Toy Rotation means that you divide your child’s toy collection into smaller, bitesize and manageable collections and rotate them from time to time.

Here’s the key considerations for Toy Rotation:

  • Those toys not being used in your current selection are packed and stored out of sight.
  • It is suggested that toys should be rotated every 2 weeks – unless your child has lost interest before then.
  • Sometimes you may choose to rotate the whole collection whilst other times you may wish to switch just a few items.
  • If your child has a favourite toy – you may also choose to keep this out all the time but rotate the others.
  • If your child is studying a particular topic at school/nursery – you may also choose to align your toy selection alongside this to support their learning journey at home for that period.
  • Toy Rotation can be started from the moment your child shows an interest in playing with their toys – usually 8/9 months+.

The point of toy rotation is that there is just enough change to keep the toys interesting at any given time.

You may have noticed across our range that we support open ended play and role play as much as possible. This is another great way of keeping a toy selection interesting an engaging.

Open ended toys don’t just do one thing and do not carry a character or theme. Open ended toys are versatile enough to be used in almost all playtime situations and they grow alongside your child’s abilities and interests – offering something new whatever age or stage they’re at.

If you have any questions relating to toy selection, toy rotation, play spaces or any of our products please do reach out.
