Does the size of my Wobbel Board really matter?

Does the size of my Wobbel Board really matter?

This is something I am asked regularly by parents considering which Wobbel might be the best fit for their family, or those considering other balance board brands that are not Wobbel, which inevitably deviate from the Original Wobbel sizing.

The short answer is Yes, your board size does matter – with some caveats.

The size of the balance board you use matters for many of the same reasons the size of your skateboard or bicycle matters. You wouldn’t buy a bicycle that was too big or too heavy for you to operate safely and comfortably, would you?

Operationally a Wobbel Board requires balance – if your child is too small and the board is too big or if your child is too big and the board is too small, using the board will be challenging.

That being said, whilst I would err on the side of caution with the littlest of Wobbel-ers – one of the biggest benefits to a toddler, pre-schooler and big kid of a balance board is the strength, coordination, mobility and motor skill exercise that it builds. With this in mind your board should offer a challenge.

The well-tested guide from Wobbel gives us the below recommendations:

Wobbel Starter

(or boards that measure 70cm in length and less than 30cm in width)

Best used by children under the age of 3.

These boards are the shortest boards in length, are the lightest weight and are the perfect entry-level Wobbel for smaller children or those who are little more cautious than adventurous.

Wobbel Original or Pro

(boards that measure 90cm long and 30cm in width)

The most universal board of all board types and suitable to all ages and abilities.

You would never need to transition to another board from the Original or Pro, though you may consider a bigger board when you reach 140cm in height and your centre of gravity moves.

Wobbel XL

(115cm in length and 40cm wide)

The XL board is 2kgs heavier than its younger sister, the Original and Pro. Being 15cm longer and 10 cm wider makes it best suited to those 140cm and above. Being 140cm and above will give you a safer handling ability of this board.

In summary, the best board size is the size that offers a safe challenge.

Since we are big believers in buying less if you choose well (better for the planet and your pocket!) we would always suggest purchasing the Original or Pro for the longest use, if your child is not yet nearing 140cm in height.

You will likely never need to transition from this board and so really will benefit from a toy that has lasted all the way through the ages.

As with all products stocked here at Eco Souk, they’re here because we as a family have tried, tested and loved them. I know my product range very well so feel free to reach out if you have any questions and need more assistance choosing the right board for your home.
